When adding a superyacht model to a series, designers and shipyards strive for family looks, understandably. However, offering the same platform just with more space doesn’t necessarily tick the boxes for buyers. The Columbus Atlantique 65 yacht model reflects this recognition by Columbus Yachts and Hot Lab. Together, they’re giving cruising enthusiasts features not only solely on this series project, but also rarely, if ever, seen on other megayachts.
The Columbus Atlantique series blends classic sailing-yacht design with sporty automotive design. The sailing influence is especially notable in the sharp bow and at the transom, the latter with rounded styling. Sinuous side lines, meanwhile, especially call to mind 1950s-era cars, according to Hot Lab. Additionally, across all the sizes, the series makes typically little-used areas like the aft deck more inviting, incorporating a pool, seating, and dining areas that flow from one to the other.
The new Columbus Atlantique 65 yacht project subtly yet dramatically builds on this concept. For example, rather than nestle the pool in or on the transom, it sits suspended on a half deck accessible from the aft main deck (at top). The build and design teams call it a Pool Terrace. Its glass walls ensure guests have some of the best views onboard, too. Simultaneously, this terrace allows a dedicated enclosed beach club immediately beneath it (above). Many builders and designers are eliminating traditional beach clubs in favor of fully open “clubs,” yet the new Atlantique model gives guests the best of both worlds. Finally, the Pool Terrace lends a little more privacy to the aft main deck, an area as mentioned above that often goes unused, particularly when yachts are docked in marinas.
Yet another noteworthy—perhaps most noteworthy, depending on your preferences—design change impacts the bow. Naturally, Columbus Yachts and Hot Lab wanted to offer a main-deck master. However, the Columbus Atlantique 65 yacht has a high bow, which under normal circumstances would eliminate a view from the stateroom. But, Hot Lab created a duplex master, with a raised mini saloon and en suite bath. Between the skylights overhead and nearly 10-foot (3-meter) ceiling height, the suite seems like it’s aboard a far larger yacht. Nicely, the suite still has access to the hot tub out on deck.
With five further staterooms for guests, including one on the bridge deck, the latest Atlantique megayacht model will be run by 16 crew and a captain. Construction can begin shortly after contract signing.
