Enjoy a long look at Amara, because in several months, she will look quite different. The Feadship Refit and Services division will take tools to her uppermost deck, removing and reconstructing it as a helideck. It’s among several changes her owners want to make to this classic cruiser.
Amara launched back in 1986 as Cacique. Naval architecture and styling came from Frits De Voogt, founder of what is now De Voogt Naval Architects. The interior, meanwhile, came from Terence Disdale. In subsequent years, the megayacht changed hands and names, going by Calixe and Minderella, further undergoing an extensive refit in 2016. That refit saw major changes throughout the interior, which accommodates a party of 12. The refit additionally saw significant modifications outside. In fact, the 188-footer (57.3-meter) gained the small helipad attached just aft of the sundeck, above the boat deck.
The current owners, who acquired the megayacht last year, have commissioned another full refit taking place at Feadship’s Makkum shipyard. It includes creating and installing a full helideck. Additionally, new teak will cover the rest of the sundeck, which includes a hot tub. More teak will line the foredeck, too. These, along with technical upgrades and interior changes, are just some of the major works taking place.
Amara is the latest Feadship to return to the builder for refit work. The superyacht W, for instance, underwent a 10-month refit at Feadship from 2019 into last year. She returned to her owner’s hands last summer and is currently stateside.
